Call for Arts Organizations specializing in Afterschool Performing Arts Classes for Youth Ages 7 to 16 Years
DCA’s Performing Arts Division (PERF) announces an open call for arts organizations that specialize in performing arts practices for the Lankershim Performing Arts Center.
DCA invites performing and community arts organizations, both established and emerging in the field of musical theater, costume design, performing arts instructors and theater technicians versed in theater production to apply.
All applicants must currently reside in North Hollywood or the greater Los Angeles area.
This is a wonderful opportunity to inspire, captivate, and educate youth in the performing arts. The after-school classes will take place Tuesday through Thursday for eight weeks from January 14, 2025, to March 6, 2025.
Please note: 2024 grant recipients through the DCA Grant Division are not eligible to apply for this commission.

● Location: Lankershim Arts Center, 5108 Lankershim Blvd., N. Hollywood, CA 91601
● Dates: Tuesday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for (eight weeks).

● Peer Review Panel Scoring of Applicants: November 18, 2024
● Announcement of Commissioned Artists: December 1, 2024
● Registration Start Date: December 19, 2024
● Class Dates: January 14, 2025 to March 6, 2025
FUNDING
A $2,000 commission will be awarded to one organization specializing in working with children on various aspects of performing arts practice.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
For this commission, performing arts organizations and instructors are expected to complete the following:
● Post family-friendly content and share on social media accounts including @dca-lnk on Instagram
● Provide quality age-appropriate materials and instruction in performing arts
● Create and implement a theme or focus for the instruction
● Manage class space(s) in an organized, safe, productive, and engaged fashion
● Document any undesirable behavior of youth participants to be shared with the Lankershim Art Center staff
● Report any incidents or accidents to Lankershim Art Center staff immediately
● Provide insurance for and during the designated commission period
● Ensure all instructors and staff are Livescanned and cleared to work with children
● Provide all contracts, invoices, and receipts for commission monies paid
Commissions are distributed to artists/organization after the project is completed in full. Payment may take about six months to receive after project completion. The City of LA does not front-fund any projects or expenses.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered, interested individuals must adhere to the following submission guidelines:
1. Short Bio: Applicants must submit a brief biography detailing their experience in both performing arts and musical theater.
2. Video Sample: A video sample link showcasing the applicant’s work both with children and as an artist or organization. Each video should not exceed five minutes in length.
3. Social Media and Press: Provide any links to social media accounts. Any reviews, press coverage, or testimonials from previous performances are highly encouraged.
4. Proposal: Applicants should write a paragraph detailing what performing arts classes they would like to teach.
5. BTRC (Business Tax Registration Certificate): Applicant or Organization responsible for receiving the commission payment must submit a copy of their BTRC.
SELECTION PROCESS
A review panel of experts will evaluate all submissions based on experience, creativity, ability and professionalism.
