The Los Angeles Public Library and the Los Angeles County Library cards give you access to many resources, including two amazing online music collections. Freegal features unlimited songs, and Hoopla lets you check out full albums. These two databases have endless amounts of music from the African and African American diaspora to explore, from famous hits to underground sounds.

Fire Kinship: Southern California Native Ecology and Art

Prior to the colonization of Southern California in the 18th century, Native communities throughout the region deployed controlled fire regimes to ensure the well-being of their local ecosystems. Fire Kinship counters attitudes of fear and illegality around fire, arguing for a return to Native practices in which fire is regarded as a vital aspect of land stewardship, community well-being, and tribal sovereignty. Wednesdays 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m., Thursdays – Sundays 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m.

My hands are monsters who believe in magic

This exhibition showcases works by Asian diasporic artists that explore the process of unmaking and remaking the self. Focusing on art as a site of radical reimagination, the exhibition presents a cross-generational conversation about the liberatory possibilities inherent in the continuous, messy, and sometimes contradictory process of forming social identity.

Victorian Christmas

Christmas Holiday display of our finest antiques, Santa Clauses, angels, choir boys, and village scenes that depict Dickens’s Victorian Christmas. Our Christmas tree will be decorated with our collection of antique ornaments and there will be a display of vintage Christmas cards.

Music in the Chinese Garden

Enjoy traditional Chinese music on Wednesday afternoons in the Garden of Flowing Fragrance. A different solo musician performs each week, playing unamplified melodies on classical instruments including the dizi, pipa,  and erhu. Let the music transport you to another time and place as you stroll through one of the most magical landscapes in Southern California.

Art Show: Through the Lens of California History

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025,from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Cantabria Senior Apartments, EngAGE, Inc, presents Art Show: Through the Lens of California History. Residents explored art mediums and techniques that reflect the diverse cultural and environmental landscapes present in California’s history. Senior artists at affordable housing communities in the valley will be displaying their art. Their work is a culmination of a 14-week writing class produced by EngAGE, Inc.
