The Broad is pleased to announce Desire, Knowledge, and Hope (with Smog), an exhibition drawn entirely from the Broad collection, showcasing works by Los Angeles-based artists. Drawing its title from a John Baldessari work, the exhibition includes reflections on L.A. as a city in flux, and on societal issues that extend far beyond it. The show includes the work of 21 artists across varying generations who were raised in the Los Angeles area, or relocated to the city.

We Live in Painting: The Nature of Color in Mesoamerican Art

Mesoamerican artists held a cosmic responsibility: as they adorned the surfaces of buildings, clay vessels, textiles, bark-paper pages, and sculptures with color, they (quite literally) made the world. Color mapped the very order of the cosmos, of time and space. The exhibition explores the science, art, and cosmology of color in Mesoamerica. See website for ticket prices and registration.

It’s an electrifying evening of samba soul as the legendary Azymuth takes the stage with Marcos Valle. Born from the vibrant Rio de Janeiro music scene of the early 1970s, Azymuth’s innovative blend of funk, jazz, and samba set the stage for a new era of Brazilian music.
