The nine paintings in this exhibition are the work of one extraordinary Buddhist monk named Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, a second-generation thangka artist living in Tuksche, a remote village in Mustang, Nepal’s northernmost district adjacent to Tibet. The monk has devoted much of his life to restoring a nearby 16th-century gompa (Tibetan monastery) called the Chhairo Gompa. Featuring over 250 intricate works of silver, the exhibit features jewelry and textiles primarily made in China’s Guizhou Province, where the largest population of Miao people reside.
