Explore The Huntington Library’s extensive Pacific Rim collections, encompassing materials that highlight the diverse cultures and histories of regions including California, China, Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines. The exhibition features notable subjects, including European exploration in Asia from the 16th century onward, 19th-century anti-Chinese movements in California, and Chinese immigration to the United States. Highlights include the largest collection of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company in the U.S., papers related to Philippine independence by Emilio Aguinaldo, and rare printed works such as the 1585 Historia de las cosas más notables by Juan González de Mendoza.

We Live in Painting: The Nature of Color in Mesoamerican Art

Mesoamerican artists held a cosmic responsibility: as they adorned the surfaces of buildings, clay vessels, textiles, bark-paper pages, and sculptures with color, they (quite literally) made the world. JAPANESE GARDEN – KOI POND AT SOUTH COAST BOTANIC GARDENS
