Sangre de Nopal/Blood of the Nopal is a multi-site project offering an expanded understanding of cochineal’s scientific and Indigenous origins, a red dye developed by the Zapotec people. This multivocal exhibition will center ancestral knowledge and technical experimentation and bring a special focus to issues of immigration and labor justice.

Tour of the Historic Lanterman House

Discover the architectural charm of the Lanterman House, a historic site surrounded by patios and featuring thirty-two French doors. Guided tours, led by knowledgeable docents, last about 75 minutes and start from the Visitor Center. The venue offers free parking, but note that the house is not air-conditioned.   Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m.

This Japanese garden features a light hill-scape, pond, cascading 25-foot waterfall, and a formal teahouse designed by Kinzuchi Fujii. Classical Sundays at Six is now presented at St. James in the City as part of our broader offerings of Great Music at Saint James. It is the oldest continuing chamber music series in Southern California. Offered from October through May at 6 PM, Classical Sundays at Six features chamber, orchestral, and solo artists from Southern California and around the world, streaming live and on demand.
