Experience the joy of the holidays with a variety of events at the South Coast Botanic Garden. There will be new seasonal plantings from the moment you walk through the Garden’s gates and can’t-miss photo opportunities, including our twist on iconic pine trees. Shop for the holidays, or for yourself, at our kiosk in Palm Circle, which will have a whole new look and merchandise for the season. Merry + Bright will be sprinkled through all of the Garden’s offerings during this time, including Nature POP! and food and beverage at Dottie’s. ASIAN PACIFIC RESOURCE CENTER – LA COUNTY LIBRARY

Spend an afternoon at a special collection of the LA County Library that encompasses academic materials, film, music, novels, magazines, and newspapers. The collection focuses on the Asian American Pacific Islander American experience, with core holdings in history, art, and culture. The center has over 100 titles on microfilm of historical Asian immigrant newspapers published in the US.

Sacred Realms: Temple Murals By Shashi Dhoj Tulachan

The nine paintings in this exhibition are the work of one extraordinary Buddhist monk named Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, a second-generation thangka artist living in Tuksche, a remote village in Mustang, Nepal’s northernmost district adjacent to Tibet. The monk has devoted much of his life to restoring a nearby 16th-century gompa (Tibetan monastery) called the Chhairo Gompa. Miao: Masters of Silver

Featuring over 250 intricate works of silver, the exhibit features jewelry and textiles primarily made in China’s Guizhou Province, where the largest population of Miao people reside. Male silversmiths create a variety of ornaments through casting, smelting, repoussé (a reverse hammering technique), forging, engraving, knitting, coiling, cutting, and other methods.
