BACKGROUND:
The Museum of Modern Mythology was founded in 1982 by Ellen Havre Weis, Jeffrey Errick and Matthew Cohen, to explore the history of American advertising figures. The unique slant of the museum was to interpret characters such as Mr. Clean, Michelin Man, Elsie the Cow and Jolly Green Giant as being manifestions of classic mythic archetypes, therefore adding new understanding to their place in pop culture.

The Valley Relics Museum was founded in California’s San Fernando Valley in 2014 by entrepreneur Tommy Gelinas, initially as a facility to preserve neon signage and other post-war ephemera that was rapidly disappearing from the Southern California landscape. It is now a complete pop culture museum, housing important memorabilia from film and television, gaming arcades, aerospace artifacts, BMX cycles and historic building signage. Valley Relics Museum acquired the Museum of Modern Mythology collection in 2021 from the estate of its late co-founder, Ellen Havre Weis.
