On Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., the Institute of Musical Arts welcomes back the thirteenth installment of our WOMEN’S VOICES Storytelling Concert Series, with their performance, “Our School’s Final Bell”.

Imagine, the Washington Carver Learning Center, which had served its inner city neighborhood for 70 years, is scheduled for demolition. It has become a casualty of gentrification and will be replaced by a 200 unit luxury apartment building. Steps that once led inside to a legacy of education excellence, will instead form the entrance to a new Target, Whole Foods, and Soul Cycle. But today, four former teachers attend the closing celebration of this historic event to reminisce about the “good ole days.” Come and share the memories with Women’s Voices members: Laura H. Duncan, Brenda Haynes, Donna M. Richardson, and Ife Keller, as they prepare to say farewell, but are interrupted by an eavesdropper, Barbara H. Clark, just before the final bell.

We’d love to have you enjoy an afternoon of great entertainment. As is our custom at the Institute of Musical Arts, a reception will follow the performance. Tickets for the performance are FREE and will very likely sell out. You can reserve tickets online: https://ourschoolsfinalbell.eventbrite.com

Ours is a small, intimate theater, and seating is limited, so please reserve your seats in advance, or call the theater before the performance to confirm ticket availability by leaving your name and number at (323) 294-1235.
