“Animal Conversation” by Pascaline Doucin-Dahlke has been selected for the North Central Animal Shelter mural! The mural depicts shelter animals in conversation with each other amidst a vibrant landscape. The artist describes it as “four vignettes where all the animals taken in photos inside the three shelters are free, playing, and having surreal conversation with each other.”
Pascaline’s artwork consists of conceptual semi-abstract acrylic paintings, digital art, and mixed media drawings based on local landscaping, still life and nude subjects. You can learn more about her work here.
DCA invited 4 artists from its 2020 Muralist Roster to submit a proposal for this project. “Animal Conversation” was selected out of 4 proposals by a third-party panel composed of Lincoln Heights community members, Bureau of Engineering staff, and Animal Services staff. DCA will be presenting the design at the March Cultural Affairs Commission meeting with an anticipated installation in late-Spring or early-Summer. This is a digital rendering and the final mural installation will reveal the artist’s innovative approach.
This project is funded by the City of Los Angeles Dept. of Cultural Affairs Public Works Improvements Arts Program and is managed by the Department’s Mural Program.
