Join us for a fun-filled evening of Art Workshops, a Student Art Exhibition, Refreshments, and Entertainment, such as performances by Grammy Award winner Lorenzo Martinez y sus Gavilanes, and Grupo Bella and Vanessa, who are also recipients of a Grammy.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is an indigenous ritual of Mexico celebrating life and the afterlife through art, music, and family unity. The celebration will conclude with an amazing ritual dance by Danza Temachtia Quetzacoatl. The public is welcome to participate in the community altar by bringing a photocopy/image of a loved one who has passed to place on the altar.

Descanse en Paz: Memorial Paintings from 19th-Century Mexico

This exhibition highlights two popular genres of 19th-century Mexican painting commemorating family members who no longer reside in the household— offering them a lasting presence in the home. The first intimately portrays deceased individuals in likenesses imbued with grief and tender remembrance. The second genre is the uniquely Mexican monja Coronado or “crowned nun” portrait. Images of flowers adorned Brides of Christ were commissioned by the families of women who took Catholic ecclesiastical vows and permanently embarked on cloistered lives.
