Join exhibition artist Elyse Pignolet for a walkthrough of her latest work in COLA 2023 followed
by a brief Q&A moderated by DCA LAMAG Curator, Nancy Meyer.
Elyse Pignolet (b. 1979, Oakland, CA; lives and works in Los Angeles)

Elyse Pignolet received her BFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach in
2007. She creates ceramic installations through a feminist lens to discuss ideas of post-colonial
ethnicity, global exchange, and intersectionality. Porcelain painting is a crucial element to her
work; its decorative, ornate quality draws viewers to pay closer attention to the provocative
messages embedded within. She’s interested in creating contrast in her pieces– inviting viewers
to take accountability by reflecting upon current global feminist movements.

Pignolet has had solo exhibitions at Track 16, Los Angeles, CA (2021); Koplin Del Rio Gallery,
Seattle, WA (2020, 2019); and Zona Maco, Mexico City, Mexico (2020). Group shows featuring
her work have been held at Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2022); Long
Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach, CA (2021); Catharine Clark Gallery, San Francisco, CA
(2020, 2016, 2008); Maui Arts & Culture, Maui, HI (2019); Anren Biennale, Anren Sichuan,
China (2019); Rosalux, Berlin, Germany (2019); Craig Krull Gallery, Santa Monica, CA (2018);
Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Eugene, OR (2017); and the Riverside Museum of Art,
Riverside, CA (2017). Pignolet’s work is held in collections at the Los Angeles County Museum
of Art, Long Beach Museum of Art, Achenbach Graphic Arts Council of the Fine Arts Museums
of San Francisco, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum in Eugene, OR. She has been awarded
the Cultural Trailblazer grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in 2020
and the Ballinglen Arts Foundation fellowship in 2019.
