Join authors David E. Hayes-Bautista, Cynthia L. Chamberlin, Paul Bryan Gray, and Luis Jaime Veytia as they release the book “The Latino Big Bang in California – The Diary of Justo Veytia, a Mexican Forty-Niner,” with an introduction by LA Plaza CEO Leticia Buckley. They will discuss the translation, annotation, and contextualization of the only known diary by a Mexican Forty-Niner. The book also explains the origins of today’s bilingual, bicultural Latino society in California and the U.S., as illustrated by this Mexican Forty-Niner eyewitness, Justo Veytia, in the diary of his experiences in early Gold Rush California during his sojourn in the Golden State.The authors will describe their experiences in writing the book, and sign purchased copies on the day of the event.
