Build a Toy: Family Art Workshop presented by the Vincent Price Art Museum

Join VPAM staff and East Los Angeles residents for Build a Toy: Family Art Workshop. Inspired by the current exhibition Yoshie Sakai: Grandma Entertainment Franchise and artist-designed grandma emoji plush dolls, have fun creating and playing with your own plush toy!
Use the in-gallery environments — Grandma Amusement Park, Nightclub, and Spa — as your toy’s backdrop and enjoy playtime in the museum.
About the teaching artist:
Born in Bulacan, Philippines, Gem Lagonoy is a Los Angeles-based fiber artist and educator. Her work explores identity, nostalgia, and childhood to celebrate the freedom of imagination and play. In 2021, she obtained an Associates Degree in Studio Arts and Art History and Museum Studies Certificate of Achievement from East Los Angeles College. Currently, Gem teaches fiber workshops at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and leads art classes in various middle schools across Los Angeles County.
