On Saturday, September 26, join Villa Albertine for the return of Films on the Green Los Angeles with a screening of Model Shop, presented in partnership with Mezzanine and Hollyhock House.

Presented by Villa Albertine in honor of the 250th anniversary of French-American relations, this series celebrates cultural exchange and cinematic collaboration between the two countries on the silver screen. Join us on the west lawn of Hollyhock House for an evening of great cinema, live music and food.

Legendary French director Jacques Demy’s sole English-language studio film is an outsider’s attempt to define Los Angeles as a city on screen, featuring beautiful photography of the city’s Westside and capturing everyday life in L.A. as a place of drifting, melancholy, and possibility. A slacker architect (Gary Lockwood) is about to lose his girlfriend and his car, until he sees a beautiful model (Anouk Aimée) and begins to follow her, from Malibu Beach to Beverly Hills mansions to Santa Monica Boulevard’s strip malls. One of the key 1960s films about L.A. and a forerunner of the New Hollywood youth culture, Demy’s film pays a dreamlike reverence to the city’s landscape, and endures as a relaxed and poignant vision of the sprawling city.

Gates for the film screening on Hollyhock House’s west lawn open at 5:30pm. Arrive early as seating is first-come; RSVP does not guarantee admission, and capacity is limited. Bring blankets, pillows, or stadium seats that rest on the ground with a low back. Chairs with a seat off the ground are not permitted.
You are welcome to pack your own picnic; no alcohol is permitted. Food trucks available on site.
Pets aren’t permitted inside the Hollyhock House west lawn fence; service animals only.

Shifting Perspectives: Cheech Collects

Over the past year and a half, artists and collectors have donated 80 works by almost 35 artists to The Cheech Center Collection. This year's exhibition will highlight some new additions alongside works from Cheech Marin's initial gift of 500 works. The latest exhibition, Cheech Collects, explores different forms within the Cheech Marin Collection. It introduces photography and sculpture alongside paintings, prints, and mixed media works for which the collection is celebrated. See website for ticket prices.

BEHIND BARS: INCARCERATION IN THE WEST

This installation features some of the many forms that incarceration has taken in the American West over time, in conversation with a new photo series by fine art photographer Pep Williams, taken in a California state prison. Located in the jail cell area of the Autry’s firearms galleries, the installation brings past and present into dialogue.

Bernard Hoyes: Out from Under the Net

Presenting the evolution of Bernard Hoyes’ signature Rag Series, developed during the 1970s and expanded through collage, painting, and printmaking. His rhythmic compositions reflect Afro-Caribbean spirituality, rituals, and the power of women across music, dance, and magic. The works explore themes of race, identity, memory, and liberation through layered visual language.
