Percent for Public Art

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Percent for Public Art programs invest in creating public art commissions, amenities, and cultural programming through two principal initiatives: the Public Works Improvements Arts Program (PWIAP) and the Private Arts Development Fee Program (ADF), each dedicated to creating and maintaining art within the public realm.

Public Works Improvements Arts Program (PWIAP)

The City mandates that one-percent of the total cost of all construction, improvements, or renovation projects undertaken by the City be set aside for public art projects in compliance with the PWIAP.

Private Arts Development Fee Program (ADF)

The City requires that each owner of a private development project, valued at $500,000 or more, pay an arts fee based on the square footage of the building or one-percent of the project’s Building and Safety permit valuation, whichever is lower.
