One of the first in the region, the monthly First Thursday ArtWalk happens between Pacific Ave, Harbor Boulevard, 4th and 9th streets.
The First Thursday ArtWalk showcases all arts disciplines throughout the arts community. Begun in 1997, by a group of restaurateurs, artists, and urban planners, it was designed to revitalize businesses and the arts by creating a regular attraction to bring the community into downtown San Pedro.
Guided ArtWalk Tours will begin in March 2024, for a small fee.
Explore living collections of orchids and camellias, a botanical conservatory, a fragrant rose garden, a children’s garden, and more, in 16 themed gardens spread over 120 acres. Adjacent to John Waters: Pope of Trash, in the Warner Bros. Gallery, the Academy Museum presents Outside the Mainstream, an installation that pays homage to the work of other radically independent filmmakers—such as Kenneth Anger, Shirley Clarke, Jack Smith, Andy Warhol, Gregg Araki, Todd Haynes, and Rose Troche—who operate beyond the pale of mainstream cinema. Liu Fang Yuan or the Garden of Flowing Fragrance, is one of the finest classical-style Chinese gardens outside of China. Filled with Chinese plants and framed by exquisite architecture, the landscape is enriched with references to literature and art. Visitors can find both physical relaxation and mental stimulation when exploring the dramatic 15-acre garden.
Feed our playful koi, stroll the winding pathways, view the Tea House, or reflect at the Zen Garden. Each season unfolds with colorful blossoms, exciting cultural celebrations, and intriguing exhibits. No entry is allowed without a reservation; tickets are available on the website. Tuesdays – Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
