The audience will journey through a performance of the ancient Chinese guzheng and vocals sung in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Alongside the performance, the history of the guzheng and its contemporary utilizations are explored. LA Made: Japanese Taiko Drumming
This program introduces audiences of all ages to Japanese taiko drumming in three ways: Performances of traditional and contemporary repertoire. Presentations on the history and cultural significance of taiko drums. An interactive element where audience members learn taiko rhythms and play them on the drums.
STORRIER STEARNS JAPANESE GARDEN
This Japanese garden features a light hill-scape, pond, cascading 25-foot waterfall, and a formal teahouse designed by Kinzuchi Fujii. The garden is considered by many to be a masterwork, and it demonstrates the adaptability of Japanese culture in modern America. Register in advance at the website.
