A rare opportunity to meet Greg Reiner, NEA’s Theater and Musical Theater Director, at this exclusive event September 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

The Department of Cultural Affairs Performing Arts Division is pleased to announce that Greg Reiner, Theater and Musical Theater Director for the Performing Arts Division (Dance/Music/ Opera/Musical Theater/Theater), at the National Endowment for the Arts will be in Los Angeles on Friday, September 15, 2023 and wants to hear from LA’s theater-makers.

DCA is hosting a free event for Mr. Reiner to meet with, and hear from, theater artists and companies, and to learn how the NEA can help address the unprecedented challenges currently facing the not-for-profit theater field.

This opportunity is open to LA-based theater artists and companies of all sizes and will take place 2:00 p.m – 4:00 p.m. at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, located in the Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Parking is limited and attendees are encouraged to take public transportation or ridesharing.

DCA would like to maximize our time with Mr. Reiner, so attendees are asked to please email your questions and comments (250 words or less), by 5:00 p.m. Thursday September 14, 2023 to: dca-perform@lacity.org.

We hope you’ll share this special invitation and encourage friends and colleagues in the LA theatre field to take advantage of this opportunity.

About Greg Reiner

Greg Reiner joined the NEA as the director of theater and musical theater starting in September 2015. Reiner manages NEA grantmaking in theater and musical theater and represents the agency to the field.

Most recently, Reiner was executive director of Classic Stage Company in New York City, where he launched CSC’s Musical Theater Initiative, the organization’s largest fundraising campaign, and implemented new education programs such as a Teen Council and a Shakespeare scene and monologue competition. Prior to that, Reiner was founding executive director of Tectonic Theater Project in New York City, where he received a Tony nomination for Best Play as one of the producers of 33 Variations. At Tectonic, Reiner also designed and managed the simultaneous opening of The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later in 150 theaters in all 50 states, DC, and eight countries, on the same night, with livestreaming and social media outreach. Reiner has also served as managing director at The Actors’ Gang in Culver City, California, and at the Shakespeare Festival/LA.

Reiner received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Loyola Marymount University in 1998.

We Live in Painting: The Nature of Color in Mesoamerican Art

Mesoamerican artists held a cosmic responsibility: as they adorned the surfaces of buildings, clay vessels, textiles, bark-paper pages, and sculptures with color, they (quite literally) made the world. Color mapped the very order of the cosmos, of time and space. The exhibition explores the science, art, and cosmology of color in Mesoamerica. See website for ticket prices and registration.
