SACRED REALMS: BUDDHIST PAINTINGS BY SHASHI DHOJ TULACHAN FROM THE GAYLE AND EDWARD P. ROSKI COLLECTION

The nine immense paintings in this exhibition are the work of Buddhist monk Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, a second-generation thangka artist living in Tuksche, a remote village in Mustang, Nepal. The practice of thangka painting is centuries old and is carried out by highly trained monks for the purpose of teaching about Buddha and the tenets of the Buddhist religion.

SUN WING WO GENERAL STORE AND HERB SHOP

This recreated 1890s general store and herb shop reflects how Chinese immigrants built self-sufficient community spaces within the Garnier Building. Visitors encounter period merchandise, banking and postal services, and a traditional Chinese medicine herb shop with references to acupuncture and herbal remedies.
