This project honors the spirit and talent of George Hoshida, an incarcerated artist who documented life with pencil and brushwork in a series of notebooks he kept between 1942 and 1945. Through examples of Hoshida’s artwork and personal correspondence with his family, this site hopes to provide insight into one individual’s incarceration experience.

Fujii Kaze and the Piano
Fujii Kaze is a rising singer-songwriter from Japan. Fujii Kaze writes/composes all of his songs. Fujii’s music has been described as “fresh yet familiar,” with an evident influence stemming from the Western music he grew up with. His vocals are “reminiscent of Japan’s kayōkyoku pop standards,” making his music also distinctly Japanese.
