This installation within the ongoing Human Nature exhibition explores the significance of waterways, the rivers, canals, and ocean passages that have long served as routes of travel, transport, and connection. It examines the continuing interdependence between people and the natural environments of California, highlighting cultural history, traditional ecological knowledge, and contemporary practices that address today's environmental challenges. The installation frames waterways as sacred lifelines that have provided resources and connections for thousands of years and that deserve continued protection.
