From his early self-portraits to his more recent abstractions, COLA grantee Sandeep Mukerjee’s interest as an artist has always been in making a hybrid object—part painting, part drawing, part sculpture and part environment. His current work—drawings, installations and abstract paintings—play upon the tension between pictorial and sculptural space.
Mukherjee’s artworks may be found in a wide range of public collections, including those of MOCA, Los Angeles; MOMA, New York; LACMA; UCLA Hammer Museum. He has had solo shows at Brennan and Griffin (New York), Project 88 (Mumbai), Sister and Cottage Home (Los Angeles), at the Margo Leavin Gallery (Los Angeles) and the Pomona College Museum of Art (Claremont) among others.
