Spotlighting the Tongva People and the Southern California Black Walnut, Takaape’ Waashut NELA Black Walnut Day 2023 celebrates the natural resources of the North East Los Angeles (NELA) community. This free community event will feature educational
workshops and artistic presentations of Tongva culture including guided hiking tours, walnut dye workshops, and meditation seminars. In addition, there will be a procession/discussion of the Whale of Lincoln Heights discovered in 1931. All of which will offer North East Los Angeles residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the importance of homeland and cultural expression.
